Newborn sessions are FREE with any paid maternity session.
Tips for a successful newborn session:
- Newborns are easiest to pose, and most sleepy in their first few weeks. For this reason, we suggest scheduling your newborn appointment within 10 days of birth. Of course, that may not always be possible due to many factors, but please keep this in mind when scheduling your session.
- Full bellies equal happy babies. Scheduling your session for immediately after your baby has fed will mean they are more likely to be more cooperative. If you have to come early to feed them, or take a break in between, that is a-ok with us too!
- Many newborn sessions will include babies au naturale! However, a cold baby will more than likely not be very cooperative. Therefore, our studio will be very warm during newborn sessions, and during particularly cold months, we may even use an additional space heater. Please keep this in mind when you dress yourself. Wearing a short sleeve shirt, or tank top may mean you are more comfortable during the session.
- Extra hands are very helpful. Many newborn poses that are very popular are actually done with a lot of help of extra hands that are removed in post processing. Your baby's safety is first and foremost, so we often ask a parent, grandparent, helper, etc. to remain close to the baby at all times in case of an unexpected stretch or roll. Many moms are very tired during these early days, so bringing dad, a close friend or other family member(s) to help is great!
- Patience is key. Newborns are unfamiliar with the very big world around them, but then they are being put into various poses, in funny outfits, or nothing at all, in front of big bright lights. Some babies will need some extra time to become comfortable with the studio environment. Therefore, your 60 minute session may, in fact, be longer than that. We will not charge you extra, it is more important to us to get those photos you will cherish forever!
