I have struggled with this part of my website since day one. Over the course of 10 years I have written and rewritten my biography dozens of times, and yet, have never been completely satisfied with it. I tried writing it in third person, then first person. I tried keeping it strictly factual, then made it more candid. However, I never found the perfect mix to help get through to you who I am. I find it amazingly difficult to balance modesty and confidence when describing one's self, and yet I know it is imperative for prospective clients to get a sense of who they are hiring as a photographer, even before we ever meet.
I could bore you with the details of how I became a photographer. I could tell you that I knew I wanted to be a photographer since the age of 8, that I went to a photography school with a rigorous and in-depth course schedule, that I've won awards and recognition for my photography, and that I have interned for and work with well established photographers and organizations that have taught me so much along the way. But, I don't think that's the most important information when choosing a photographer that is perfect for your family.
What I think is important to clients is relating. I believe most people like to feel a sense of familiarity when working with a person, and list of bragging points isn't going to do that. So instead, I will tell you about myself, as a person. I am a wife, married in 2007 to my husband, Dennis. You will often see him assisting during shoots, and he has even trained as a second shooter for my weddings, sports and schools. I am a mom to 2 little boys, whom you will often see (or hear) playing in the studio on days I don't have photo shoots.
I love music (doesn't everybody) but can't sing worth a dime. So, when I sing my boys their lullabies at night, it's off key and terrible, but they love it. I love dancing, but I don't really frequent bars or clubs, so I can usually be caught dancing around my living room with a vacuum cleaner or broom as my partner. Sometimes I start things I don't finish. Sewing projects, baby books, home projects, the list goes on.
You see, I'm a person, just like you. I get busy, I get sick, I sometimes forget something, or misplace things. We all have our little quirks that make us special. I understand what it takes to be a mom, a hard worker, a friend. I hope you give me the chance to get to know you and your family as well.
